Dutch-oven cooks will have an opportunity later this month to test their skills against others in the area while helping a local school raise funds for a fitness project. The community is also welcome to show their support by attending and partaking of the vittles.
Yantis Independent School District’s Dutch Oven Cook-Off will begin Saturday morning, April 27, at the school. An entry fee of $20 will be assessed each team, which should consist of two cooks.
Each team will be required to provide all ingredients for their dishes. Contest categories will include a meat, vegetable, bread and a dessert. All entries, regardless of category, should be ready to turn in at 11 a.m. for judging. Prizes will be awarded to the top three places in each category.
The public will have an opportunity to sample the Dutch-oven entries for a $3 fee.
Any profits from the cook-off will go into a school fund to help build a walking track on the YISD campus.
