SSHS plant sale ongoing through April

Looking to brighten up your flower beds, homes and businesses? Sulphur Springs High School is opening its greenhouse up three hours a day to allow the public to peruse the rows of greenery and colorful flowers and plants available for purchase as part of the horticulture department’s annual spring plant sale.

 

The last plant sale brought in more than $5,000 to go toward future plant productions, as will proceeds from the SSHS Horticulture Department’s current Spring Plant Sale which kicked off Saturday, April 6, and will continue from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday through the end of April, at the greenhouse at SSHS.

Numerous varieties of in-door and bedding plants, by the plant, hanging pot or flat are available.

Hanging baskets go for $8 to $12 each. Dallas and Boston ferns are $10 each and Swedish ivy are $12 each. Other hanging species available for $8 per hanging basket include Bolivian, purple, fuzzy and wondering Jews; spreading coleus; philodendron ivy and pothos ivy.

Bedding plants ar available in 3.5 inch pots or 18 pots per tray. Annuals such as cocktail mixed, red and white cocktail begonias; mixed, red and white super elfin impatiens; gold Inca and orange zenith marigolds; mixed and red butterfly pentas; mixed madness, blue and lavender wave petunias; burgundy, mixed, red and white Pacifica vincas; red new look celosias; mixed carefree and wizard coleuses; yellow early sunrise coreopsis; mixed divine salsa N.G. impatiens; red obsession verbena; yellow Indian summer rudbeckia; and mixed profusion full zinnias are all available for 50-cents per unit or $8 at tray. Jalapeños, celebrity tomatoes and vegetable plants are also available for 50-cents each. 

Six-inch and 8-inch pots of indoor and bedding plants are also available. Red, white and pink pinto geraniums and confetti, Irene, new gold and white gold lantanas are available for $2 a unit. Six-inch indoor house plants such as ivy and aloe are $5 a unit.

Potted plants of several varieties are also offered in 10-inch and 12-inch containers for $12 each.
