The American Red Cross and its local disaster response team invite the community to Starplex Cinemas to a disaster preparedness fair Saturday.
The free informational event will begin at 9 a.m. and continue through 11 a.m. March 23 at the theater. Formatted in the fashion of the Kids Safe Saturday (which this year is slated April 13), officials from several local emergency response agencies will be on-hand to handout materials, answer questions and provide other general information about their organizations.
Local Red Cross coordinators noted their agency, Texas Department of State Health Services, the Community Emergency Response Team, Hopkins County Fire Department, Hopkins County Emergency Medical Services and members from some of the volunteer fire departments throughout Hopkins County have confirmed their participation in Saturday’s event.
“We are inviting the entire community to come out, meet and talk to the firefighters, EMS, CERT, the Red Cross and others and find out about disaster relief,” said Moose Morgan with the Hopkins County Red Cross.
Starplex is donating the site for the fair as well as a theater for the screening of “F-5,” a 40-minute video chronicling the F-5 tornado which hit Dallas in recent history. It starts as several Dallas workers are heading for their jobs and tells about the damage from the tornado. The screening will be free and played several times during the fair.
