A Pecan Gap man accused of exposing himself on at least two different occasions last month to women while masturbating in his car at Wal-Mart was taken into custody Sunday for indecent exposure, a Class B misdemeanor offense.
Sulphur Springs Police received reports Feb. 12 and 13 of a white male not only masturbating in a two-door Accura while parked in Wal-Mart parking lot, but also “trying to get the person’s attention as they were loading groceries into their car beside him,” SSPD Investigator Bo Fox said Wednesday.
“When the victim walked out to their car, he was parked beside them. He would expose himself while masturbating. He also tried to get their attention,” Fox said. “From the description both gave, it was apparent and we were pretty sure we were looking for the same suspect both times.”
One of the startled victims managed to get the license plate for the car the man was in. Police ran it, and it came back as being registered to a man in Pecan Gap. They utilized the address and identified the 27-year-old man, the investigator noted.
The man had reportedly been working locally in Sulphur Springs at the time of the offense. On both days, the offenses occurred in the mid-afternoon. The victims were attractive women, who he was parked beside.
“We are glad we were able to get this man in custody on charges for these incidents,” Fox said. “It was apparent fairly early on the suspect in both was the same.”
Both victims positively identified from a photo line-up the Pecan Gap man as the person they’d seen indecently exposing himself.
A warrant was secured and served Sunday, when the man was taken to Hopkins County jail. He was released Monday on $2,000 bond on the misdemeanor charge, according to jail reports.
