Advancing to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble competition in Austin on Memorial Day weekend are 28 ensemble members and five soloists. Three singers earned top ratings and advanced as both soloists and part of ensembles, and five others advanced as members of two different superior-rated ensembles.
"I am excited about the students success,” said Aaron Lovelady, SSHS choir director. “I am even more proud of the students’ work ethic and growth as a choir student through this process."
Vocalists earning first division ratings as a soloist and as part of an ensemble included: Teressa Botello, Parker Heath and Katie Huff. Choir members placing in more than one ensemble included Brianna Ivery, Duke Johnson, Dekestain Mosley, Shakoja Mosley and Khalia Owens.
Mary Humphrey and Samantha Pennington also earned superior ratings and will advance to UIL state competition as soloists.
Other ensemble members earning superior ratings and advancing to state are Taylor Bolton, Scott Galarza, J.T. Grant, Sarah Halter, Cassidy Harrington, Matthew Harris, Grace Horton, Jessica Ibarra, Cassidy Luna, Emily Nickerson, Madison Rater, Savannah Ritchie, Brionna Smith, Barry Stribling and Deandre Wright.
