With less than a week left until the close of the filing period, Como-Pickton is the only district so far that will be required to hold a trustees election May 11. That race has drawn three candidates for two slots on the school board, making an election necessary. In Sulphur Springs,

only three have filed for three slots. Yantis has two seats on its board to fill, but so far only one candidate has filed.
But, Sulphur Springs, Yantis and Como-Pickton area residents have until the close of business Friday, March 1, to file as school board candidates in their respective districts.
Como-Pickton Consolidated Independent School District will ask voters to decide which two candidates they want to represent them on the school board for the next four years. Currently, Charlie Leigh-Manuell is challenging incumbents Greg Anglin and Beth Hankins for one of the two at-large seats on that school board.
Anyone interested in filing as a trustee candidate should see Lenise Boseman in CPCISD business office before the close of business Friday to file as a candidate.
Unless someone else files this week, Sulphur Springs ISD won’t have to hold an election. So far, the trustees race has drawn only as many candidates as slots available. Currently, incumbents John Prickette and Kerry Wright are challenged by Leesa Tolliver. Clay Johnson, who currently holds the third seat, said earlier this month that after much consideration he had decided not to seek another term on the school board.
Anyone interested in filing as a candidate for one of the three at-large, three-year positions should contact Judy Gregg in the tax office at SSISD Administration Building, 631 Connally St.
Yantis ISD’s school board could end up having to appoint someone to serve if candidate filing doesn’t pick up this week. As of Monday afternoon, incumbent Mike Kenney was the only person to file as a candidate for the two full three-year, at-large seats on that school board. Joni Moreland currently serves in the second seat on the board.
To file as a trustee candidate in Yantis, contact Kristi Beech in the YISD administration office at the school.
Filing is also ongoing for city council and hospital district races. All school, city council and hospital filing ends at the close of business March 1. If elections are required, early voting would be held weekdays April 29-May 7 during business hours, with the election following Saturday, May 11 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
