Relay For Life volunteers are a busy group, finalizing plans for this month’s Survivors Dinner and earnestly working toward the annual fundraising event.

Two very important meetings are scheduled this week, and all who are able are urged by committee members to attend.

“We do have a lot to discuss so if you cannot make it, let me know,” said Judy Worley, RFL co-chair with Ashley McCracken.

First, the RFL Committee will meet at 6:30 tonight in the offices at First United Methodist Church. Those attending are reminded to enter through the back door; just look for the sign.

This meeting is very important as members will discuss many topics, including final plans for the survivors dinner and decisions relevant to the May 17-18 event — which will move from the track at Sulphur Springs Elementary to the downtown square.

Also, team captains should take note of the schedule change for the monthly meeting. The February team captains’ meeting has been moved up two days to Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 5:30 p.m. to avoid conflict with the Annual Chamber of Commerce Membership Banquet and awards program. The meeting will be in FUMC Fellowship Hall.

New teams are still welcome to participate. To register, simply visit the Feb. 19 meeting, go online to www.relayforlife.org/hopkinscotx, or contact RFL teams committee member Johnna West at 903-335-2322. The fee to register a team is $35. This year, teams will sell food to raise money in lieu of a food tent, a way to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and to help cut event expenses.

Also, cancer survivors are reminded the spring dinner hosted by the committee to honor their fight will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in FUMC gym. (Use the entrance directly across from Sulphur Springs Post Office.) The meal is being provided by the Aguilar family. Call committee members Joyce Davis at 903-885-6176 or Katena McCord at 903-885-7743 for further details about Saturday’s dinner or to register to participate in the survivors lap, which opens RFL each year. Survivors may also register for the May 17-18 event online at the above address.

This year’s entertainment will be handled by committee chair Joel Williams. Anyone interested in performing at RFL should contact Williams as early as possible at 903-243-6165 to get involved.

This year’s local RFL theme is “Tweet Out Cancer,” which will coordinate with the launch of their Twitter account. Follow the Hopkins County Relay For Life on Twitter: @RFLHopkinsCoTX, www.relayforlife.org/hopkinscotx or www.facebook.com/RFLHopkinsCoTX.

Any additional RFL questions may be directed to Worley at 903-439-8449 or McCracken at 903-307-9917.
