For many years, the dedicated members of North East Texas Livestock Association, known as NETLA, has given the youth of Hopkins County an incentive, learning opportunity and business experience to become future leaders of this county through the annual Hopkins County Junior Livestock Show and Sale.
The 2013 show and sale begins on Thursday afternoon with the weigh-in for the lamb and goat judging and continues through Saturday with the Professional Ag Workers Stew, followed by the Sale of Champions in Hopkins County Regional Civic Center.
The raising of market animals for this annual show and sale presents students the opportunity to learn responsibility and success that only comes with personal and monetary sacrifice.
The students, 4-H and FFA members, who participate in the NETLA Junior Livestock Market and Sale are dedicated to their project and, through that dedication, grow to realize the result of their actions.
At the Professional Ag Workers Stew, exhibitors and those generous businesses and individuals who support the show and sale enjoy an opportunity and fellowship with the exhibitors.
Immediately following the stew, awards will be presented; that will be followed by the Sale of Champions. Exhibitors have the opportunity to offer their project animals for sale or to keep their animals.
In conjunction with the Hopkins County Junior Livestock Show and Sale is the awarding of no less than two scholarships to exhibitors, who will be candidates for graduation in the spring, have participated in the show and sale for at least two years and meet the requirements of the scholarship program. The 2012 Sale of Champions netted almost $250,000.
