One of the three Sulphur Springs High School teams competing in the district cross examination debate Feb. 5 advanced to the semifinal round, where they finished as second alternate to the state meet.

Thirteen teams from five districts gathered for the competition in Mount Pleasant last week, including three teams from SSHS.

“The SSHS C-X team is young, being comprised of freshmen and sophomores,” said SSHS UIL Coordinator Gina Wilder. “These students did an outstanding job of representing SSHS, and all three of these teams have very bright futures ahead of them. If you see any of them, give them a pat on the back for a job well done!”

Only four of the thirteen teams advanced to the semifinal round. The SSHS team of Hunter Allen and Jessica Lappin were among the four. Two rounds later, Hallsville teams had won the first and second place spots with the Pine Tree team finishing third and Allen and Lappin in fourth place, making them second alternate to the State C-X competition.

Also competing for the Wildcats were the team of Avery Faulks and Mattison Medelline and the team of Joshua Robertson and Gillan Boyer.
