Trustees for Sulphur Springs Independent School District Monday will hold a special noon meeting to discuss and approve the annual financial audit and talk about the upcoming trustees election.
The annual report of the district’s financial health will be presented to the school board at the lunch meeting. The report reflects information compiled by Rutherford, Taylor and Company, P.C., the firm hired by the district to conduct the annual audit.
The firm sent representatives to the district in the fall to go over the books and evaluate SSISD’s overall financial health. They then compiled what they’ve learned about district finances in fiscal year 2011-2012 (which ended Aug. 31, 2012), into a “financial and compliance report,” which the board will receive Monday. If the auditors see areas for recommendations or anything that don’t meet required educational standards, they note that along with district strengths. The report is then submitted to the school board for approval during a board meeting.
Also during Monday’s meeting, the school board will receive information about the upcoming trustees election, slated May 11 to coincide with city elections. Filing for three school board positions will begin Wednesday, Jan. 30 and end Friday, March 1.
The district will also have the option of going into executive session at the conclusion of the board meeting for any personnel or real property matters presented since the Jan. 14 meeting, where trustees accepted letters of resignation from PEIMS and testing coordinator Connie Johnson, and high school math teachers Branson Boykin and Margaret Dickens. The board at the last meeting also voted to extend Superintendent Michael Lamb’s three-year contract for an additional year.
Following Monday’s closed session, the board will reconvene in open session to take action on those personnel or property matters presented.
The school board meeting will begin at 12 p.m. in the board room of SSISD Administration Building (located in the back of the building), 631 Connally St.
