Hopkins County Sheriff's officers, following up on a tip received Thursday evening, located a 27-year-old Sulphur Springs man wanted for continuous sexual abuse of a child.
Investigator Daniel Winn said Thursday that a warrant was obtained for Jonathan Lee Wood Thursday morning.
“He has got a warrant out for continuous sexual abuse of a child. The victim is an 8-year-old girl” Winn said. “According to the outcry by the forensic examiners in the Child Advocacy Center, he had been sexually molesting her since she can remember,”
Officers were unable to locate Wood Thursday afternoon and believe he had help in avoiding arrest.
“We think his family is hiding him from us,” Investigator Winn said.  “Anybody hiding him is going to be in the same boat with him.”
Chief Investigator Lewis Tatum said deputies received a tip Thursday night the wanted man might be hiding in a camper trailer in the woods just off State Highway 19 south.
“Patrol officers went down there and made contact with a Lawanda Wood at a residence there and she, evidently, led the officers astray, wouldn't give them the correct information and hindered in the apprehension of a felon,” Tatum said. “Officers located the camper, and they could smell an odor like burning marijuana.”
Inside the camper, officers located the wanted man along with a 29-year-old woman identified as Cherie Ann Alexander and took both into custody.
Justice of the Peace Ronny Glossup set Bond for Jonathan Lee Wood at $100,000.
Lawanda Ruth Wood, 46, was arrested on charges of hindering apprehension of a felon, and Glossup set bond on the charge at $10,000.
Cherie Ann Alexander was arraigned on charges of possession of a dangerous drug and possession of marijuana and her bonds totaled $3,000.
