Sulphur Springs High School came home from a University Interscholastic League academic contest Saturday at Quitman with one team award and nine individuals recognized for their accomplishments.
“The Sulphur Springs Wildcats sent a partial team to participate in the Quitman High School Invitational Meet,” noted Gina Wilder, SSHS UIL coordinator. “It was not a large group, but they did a good job.”
The first place spelling and vocabulary team consisted of Sarah Fox, Silvia Gudino, Andrew Wallace and Kelsey Brown. Individually, Fox took top honors, Gudino was recognized for placing third and Wallace finished fifth.
SSHS also did well in the ready writing competition. Three students — Garrett Gray, Emily Mason and Tyler Aaron — placed in the contest. Gray earned first, Mason fifth and Aaron sixth in ready writing.
Two other SSHS students also went home tops in their competition. Connor McCorkle earned first place honors in computer science while Alysha Meehan took top honors in science.
