Emergency personnel in Hopkins County responded to four crashes in a 24-hour period, at least two of which resulted in injuries.

One man reportedly sustained leg and neck injuries following a crash involving a car and a truck hauling a cattle trailer on FM 3236 near County Road 3510 Wednesday afternoon. A 22-year-old Pickton man was rushed by ambulance to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital, where a trauma unit was called for due to his injuries.

Two other men, a 21-year-old Pickton man and a Nevada man, were reported to also have been injured in the crash, but no further information was available Thursday morning.

The crash reportedly occurred when a cattle trailer came loose from the pickup pulling it and struck a car in the road. The trailer ended up in a ditch, and the pickup truck, which apparently overturned, came to a rest beyond a fence in a pasture on the west side of the road, according to sheriff and fire reports. When deputies arrived, the pickup driver was lying behind the truck in the field. Officials weren’t sure if the man was ejected from the truck or simply laid down after climbing out of the wreckage.

Both the vehicles and trailer sustained heavy damage. A medical helicopter was placed on standby, but Hopkins County Emergency Medical Services personnel canceled the helicopter and transported the man by ambulance to Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. EMS personnel requested the hospital’s trauma team be activated to treat the injured, according to reports from the scene.

Hopkins County sheriff’s deputies, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, Hopkins County and North Hopkins firefighters were also sent to the crash site on FM 3236 at 3:52 p.m. They remained on scene until 5 p.m., when the wreckage was finally cleared up.

Another crash report sent Hopkins County and Cumby firefighters and deputies out at 12:28 a.m. Thursday to the south Interstate 30 service road near the 114 mile marker, where a car struck a telephone pole. A woman reportedly was injured.

Officials also were dispatched to two wrecks involving trees, one on County Road 2415 in Pickton Wednesday morning and another on FM 71 west at Spur 71 early Thursday morning.  Hopkins County, Brinker and Pickton-Pine Forest firefighters were dispatched to the CR 2415 crash at 8:48 a.m. Wednesday, and Hopkins County firefighters and deputies responded just after 2 a.m. Thursday on FM 71 where a Dodge Dakota smashed into a tree. The front of the vehicle was heavily damaged. Officials searched the area but found no one near the scene. The person apparently left after the crash.
