The Ark-Tex Council of Governments Solid Waste Advisory Committee has slated a meeting for Wednesday, Feb. 4, at 10 a.m. at First National Bank, located at 200 Big League Bend in Naples. The meeting is open to the public. SWAC will first approve the minutes from the Nov. 17, 2008, meeting, then discuss three items, but are slated to vote on only one of those items.

The SWAC will be asked first to review and discuss, then vote on the nomination of Tom Dowdall, representing Waste Management to replace Ed Reaves, formerly of Waste Management, to serve as a member of the SWAC.

SWAC is scheduled for “follow-up discussion” on two matters:  the status of Texas Commission on Environmental Quality solid waste pass-through grant recipients’ projects for fiscal year 2009; and scrap tire issues in the region, including available tire transporters, storage facilities, disposal sites and types of equipment needed to convert tires into a useful product.

Although not listed specifically, SWAC can also attend or discuss additional issues as part of “other business” during the meeting.

For more information about the SWAC meeting Wednesday, Feb. 4, in Omaha, contact ATCOG Environmental Resource Planner Paul Prange at 903-832-8646.
