Two people with an hour on their hands, a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are being sought to help out a program that provides a daily meal to shut-ins, disabled and elderly Sulphur Springs residents.

The Meal A Day program, headed by Senior Citizens Center Program and Marketing Director Karon Weatherman, is currently in need of two drivers to deliver meals.

“I have a route on Thursday and a route on Friday that each need a driver,” said Weatherman, who is also the Meal A Day coordinator. “These are both in-town routes. It would take them less than 1 hour.”

Drivers have only to show up at the Senior Citizens Center, load the ice chest (or chests) for their route and deliver the boxed meals to the correct addresses. Driver delivery pairs are also welcome.

Anyone willing to help Meal A Day should call Weatherman at 903-885-1661 or send her an e-mail at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or stop by the Senior Citizens Center, 150 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Meal A Day is a food program run Monday through Friday by volunteers, who cook, package and deliver meals to seniors who are shut-ins and are unable to cook for themselves.

The program receives money from Hopkins County United Way and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, private donations and a small daily meal charge per individual. It is not a government program, does not receive any state funding, and isn’t for people who are already on state funded programs such as Meals on Wheels.
