A jailed woman is accused of hiding methamphetamine “on her person” for five days before officers were able to catch her with the illegal substance.
Special Crimes Unit investigators believe the woman concealed the narcotics inside her body, hid it in a sheriff’s vehicle while she was being searched at the hospital, then reacquired it before being taken back to jail.
Officers arrested Amber Diane Busby late Wednesday night on two delivery of controlled substance warrants. SCU officers later received a tip she was in possession of the substance while still in jail.
“Through our investigation we determined she was in the jail with a quantity of meth on her, hidden,” SCU Lt. Ron Plaxco explained Tuesday morning.
The officers obtained a search warrant Thursday. A medical professional was contacted to do the search for any substances she may have concealed within her body. The search at the health care provider’s office turned up nothing, however.
“We believe the subject removed the drugs and hid them in the vehicle she was being transported in to the doctor,” Plaxco said. “They didn’t find any meth. We think on the return trip to the jail the drugs were placed back on her person.”
Busby was returned to an “isolation cell” after her return to jail from the hospital. On Monday afternoon, she was allowed out of her cell for visitation with a pastor.
“A Hopkins County jailer searched Amber Diane Busby prior to her re-entering her cell and found a quantity of meth we believe the suspect had on her person since last Wednesday night,” Plaxco said Tuesday morning.
At that time, officers charged Busby with possession of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of the controlled substance meth, a second degree felony offense.
She remained in Hopkins County jail late Tuesday morning in lieu of $50,000 bond on each of the two delivery of a controlled substance warrants, as well as $100,000 bond on the possession charge, the SCU officer noted. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are pending, the SCU officer noted.
