Another arrest made in Medicaid fraud case

Micah Allene O'Neal, 32, of Hollywood, Calif., surrendered to Hopkins County sheriff's officers at the county jail Thursday afternoon on grand jury indictments alleging theft and Medicaid fraud.

After being booked into the jail, Mrs. O'Neal was released on bonds of $5,000 on each of the two indictments. Attorney Heath Hyde posted her bond.

District Attorney Martin Braddy said the indictments against Micah O'Neal stemmed from a federal investigation two years ago when Drug Enforcement Agency personnel and asked her father-in-law, Dr. Don O'Neal, to surrender his license to write prescriptions for medications. The information from that investigation was forwarded to state investigators.

“They made a referral to the Medicaid Fraud Division of the Texas Attorney General's office,” Braddy said. “It was investigated by the state attorney general's office.”

Information gathered through that investigation was submitted to state Medicaid Fraud Division attorneys and to a regulatory committee before being presented to the Hopkins County Grand Jury.

Information on the cases was presented to the grand jury on Dec. 14.

Both Dr. Don O'Neal and Mary Ann O'Neal, the physician’s wife, were indicted on the same charges and were arrested earlier this month. They are free on $5,000 bond on each charge.
