Saltillo Junior High students took first place at the most recent UIL meet, beating out host Sulphur Bluff by 34 points for the district title.

It was a close run, but when all was said and done, Saltillo Junior High won the district Academic University Interscholastic League title.

2011 Milller Grove Homecoming Court

Miller Grove High School homecoming court includes (front row) Neida Resendiz, Holly Miller, Gabriela Lobo, Nicole Hall, Destiny Soto, (back row) Wesley Potts, Dylan Sims, Matthew Gifford, Hunter Darrow and Colten Baylus. Homecoming ceremonies will be held Friday, Jan. 13. The Miller Grove school week is filled with dress-up days to celebrate spirit week. After pajama and flashback days on Monday and Tuesday, the school will host camo day Wednesday, “messed-up” day Thursday and green and gold day  Friday. Also Friday, MGHS will be playing CHESS home school team in a JV game at 5 p.m., the girls game at 6 p.m. and varsity boys game at 7 p.m. The crowning of homecoming king and queen will be after the varsity boys basketball game. There will also be a meet and greet for any Miller Grove alumni in the high school library from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. before the homecoming ceremonies. Republican George Alexander announces candidacy for State House District 2

Greenville attorney and business owner George Alexander said Monday he will challenge Dan Flynn for State Representative in the newly reconfigured House District 2 which includes Hopkins, Hunt and Van Zandt counties.

SSHS earns sweepstakes trophy at weekend UIL meet

The Sulphur Springs High School University Interscholastic League Academic Team opened the season strong, earning the sweepstakes trophy for large schools as well as numerous medals and team trophies at the Mount Pleasant UIL Invitational Meet held this past weekend.
