The owner of lawnmower and trailer was picking up his property Tuesday morning after sheriff's deputies recovered it Monday.
Two men are in custody in connection with the stolen property and a third is expected to be arrested Wednesday for the theft of a car-hauler trailer, lawnmower and numerous hand tools, according Hopkins County Chief Sheriff's Investigator Lewis Tatum.
“We had a trailer, a zero-turn lawn mower, tools and some other items stolen from FM 275 south about three nights ago,” Tatum said. “After doing some checking, we located one of the suspects we believed to be involved. We got him in here, and he confessed to doing it.”
The chief investigator identified the suspect as Ricky Dale Overly, 44, who was arrested by Cumby Police Chief Scotty Sewell.
“After talking to him and interviewing him, we worked it back,” Tatum said. “We went over to Dallas, off Buckner Boulevard, yesterday and recovered the trailer and the lawnmower.”
Monday night, Joey Pierce, 27, was found in possession of some of the hand tools that were taken and was arrested in connection with the thefts.
Investigators said they expect to arrest a third person later this week.
“There is a person who will be arrested Wednesday morning,” Tatum said. “The charge will be engaging in organized criminal activity, a second-degree felony that carries a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.”
Tatum said he had information the three were in the area and had them under surveillance prior to the theft.
