New middle school won’t be ready for classes until spring break

The new Sulphur Springs Middle School facility will not be ready for teachers to hold classes in when the spring semester begins, Sulphur Springs Independent School District trustees were told during Monday night’s board meeting.

Como City Council members are set to break ground at 8:30 a.m. Friday for a new Dollar General store at 2010 East Main St., according to Mayor Jerry Radney.

It’s official — Hopkins County United Way met its $150,000 goal Tuesday morning.


Commissioners approve tax resolution

Hopkins County Commissioners agreed Monday morning to a resolution authorizing the taxation of “goods-in-transit” that covers property being stored in the county while in transit to another location.

Jim Murray sends off the wagon train for the second annual Saddle Up for St. Jude trail ride and lunch at Two J Ranch in Como Saturday morning. Approximately 300 people — some from as far away as Mesquite, Ohio, Gilmer, Arkansas,  White Oak and Oklahoma — attended the event, which raised $8,000 for St. Jude Children’s Hospital to fight cancer and other diseases affecting children.
