Seven of the 11 North Hopkins students competing at the Region 1A Academic UIL meet held April 24-25, at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches were recognized for the their individual accomplishments and one team went home with top honors. Three students and one team scored high enough to advance to the state contest.
Thirty students and educators will be honored Saturday, May 2, by East Texas African American Leadership Conference during the 1st Annual Dr. Joe Minter Education Awards Ceremony, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Como-Pickton school secondary cafeteria.
Como-Pickton fifth grade students Michael Ratcliff, Tanner Childers and Michael Pruitt stand next to a Leyland Cyprus tree they planted in the school’s outdoor classroom on Earth Day. The tree will be cared for by first and fifth grade members of the “buddy” program in which students of different ages are paired up to work on school projects.
