Tip leads to pot bust at bus stop

Special Crimes Unit officers, assisted by Sulphur Springs police officers, sheriff’s deputies and state troopers, arrested a San Antonio man on felony marijuana possession charges after he stepped off a bus at the Pilot Travel Center just after 1 a.m. today.


City employee who died on the job remembered as ‘really nice guy’ who was always helping others

Francisco Javier Melendez will be remembered by many, and not just because the longtime city of Sulphur Springs employee was the victim of a tragic fatal accident on the job. Those who knew and worked with the man affectionately called “Frankie” remember a “very lovable guy” who was a dedicated friend and family man.

The offices of the city of Sulphur Springs will close at 1 p.m. Thursday to allow staff and other employees to attend funeral services for longtime employee Francisco “Frankie” Javier Melendez, who died on the job Wedndesday, March 12.
