News-Telegram staff wins big in two journalism competitions

DALLAS and MOUNT VERNON  – News-Telegram staff swept the best blog category and won two out of three awards in comment and criticism at the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors 2011 convention, held in Dallas and Fort Worth Saturday.

And they weren’t through earning recognition for their work.

Grand Jury hands down at least 35 indictments in March

A Hopkins County Grand Jury during its March 20 session signed at least 35 indictments, pushing those cases against 29 people forward for further prosecution.


One street opened, one street closed on the square

City workers opened the section of College/Main Street on the south side of the square on Saturday, but you still cannot drive all the way around the square.


Metal beams cause delay in courthouse repairs

Over the past several weeks scaffolding was put up around the courthouse and workers were busy removing granite and sandstone from the balconies over both front doors and now, for the second week, there are no workers on the job.
