The Tira City Council met on Tuesday night and ordered the May 8 election. Two council seats will be filled at that time. Incumbents Sandra Wester and Malcolm Joslin have filed as write-in

The council also discussed the upkeep of the community center and the repair needed on the swings for the children. Tira Volunteer Fire Chief Malcolm Joslin reported that the department has two new members, John Andrews and Nick Shultz.

The next regular meeting of the city council will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1.

Kevin and Dee Melton enjoyed their kids being home from college over the weekend. Kadee (in from Texas A&M-College Station) and Micah with friend Kaleigh Janota (both attending Texas Tech) were home to help out at the Northeast Texas Livestock Association Market Show, as well as visit with family and friends. After the show on Saturday morning, the group enjoyed lunch with grandparents Dean and Margaret Eudy, aunt Jeannie, and cousins Bryce, Baylee and Kylee Graves from Bonham, and had dessert at the Melton's before attending the Sale of Champions on Saturday night.

Mary Rawson and Georgia Smith were meeting their sister, Joyce Johnson, of Mesquite, in Greenville today (Wednesday). They enjoy having lunch and shopping together.
