We would like to express our sympathy to William and Joyce Dodd and all the family of Wayne Hurley. Wayne passed away last week, and his funeral was held at West Oaks Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon. William and Joyce would like to express their thanks to everyone from the community and the Tira Methodist Church for "being so nice" and for all the food and calls. They also want to thank the town of Tira for the brisket.

Courtney Loper was crowned Homecoming Queen at North Hopkins on Friday night. Courtney is the daughter of Tim and Annette Loper. A good crowd gathered for the games and festivities.

Lane Allton Potts turned 7 years old on Jan. 20. He celebrated his birthday at the bowling alley and had a sleepover with his friends.

North Hopkins School will host Parents' Night (honoring the basketball players’ parents) in the gym on Friday night. Four basketball games are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m., with the varsity games to follow the two junior varsity games. The Panthers will also play at home on Tuesday night next week.

I guess it's been another slow week in Tira. No one seems to have any news to report. I hope to have more next week.
