The Tira Town Council held their regular quarterly meeting on Tuesday night. They also decorated the community center for the Christmas party, which will be held this Friday night, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m. Brisket will be furnished. Please bring a covered dish and dessert, and canned goods to donate to the Meal-A-Day program in Sulphur Springs. Be sure to bring the kids to visit with Santa!
J.R., Donna, Casey, Tiffany and Joseph Durst traveled to Athens, Texas, and spent Thanksgiving Day with Donna's mother. Donna's sister and her family were there, too. Amy, Kyle and Cooper Kitchens came from Oklahoma and joined in the fun. Donna's cousins, from Seattle, Washington, were visiting with her aunt and uncle, so they all got to visit. Donna says, “They were enjoying our beautiful "Texas weather.” She also reports, “Joseph actually turned one year old on Thanksgiving Day.”
Robert and Wesley Weir and Alice Hall met Dacy and Elise Campbell and Destri and Ryan Main in Greenville for Thanksgiving lunch. Yvonne worked that day. On Saturday Robert, Yvonne and Wesley met Dacy, Mike and Elise, Destri and Ryan, and Dustin and Natalie in Grapevine. Everyone ate lunch at Tolbert’s and then rode the North Pole Express. Wesley loved the train, the bounce house and the horse-drawn carriage.
On Thanksgiving Day Sherry Smiddy and Powell Vickery had family in and out all day. Visitors included Shelly, Justin, Tinley, Corbin and Graci Adair; Cade Vickery; Chris, Jenna, Braden and Emma Vickery; Sandra Wester; Suzan Miller; Bobby, Carley, Garrett, Payton, and Braley Vickery; Daylee Fite; Brandi and Aysha Day; Tara Petty; and Mike Owens. On Saturday Sherry, Powell, and Daylee went shopping in Dallas and had dinner with Tara and Mike, Leda, Chris and Mikyla Owens.
Tommy, Carolyn, John and Reid Long had Thanksgiving lunch at Johnnie and Pat Robinson's in Celina. Tommy reports, “We joined Sammie and Norman Bedford; Frank, Juli, Sam, Ami Long and friend Evan; Brian, Jeannie, Austin and Autumn Brewer; and Doug Estes for Thanksgiving dinner at Dad's house that evening, where we enjoyed watching the Longhorns defeat the Aggies in an exciting football game.”
Floyd and Martha Payton held their annual Thanksgiving get-together at the Tira Community Center this year. Those attending were Von and Loretta Honzell from Wylie; David, Seth and Nathan from Rockwall; Marvin and Karen Stebbins from Garland; Ann Sullivan and son Ronny Petty from Longview; Ray and Ruth Prim from Benbrook; Bill and Nelda Jo Gordon, Pam and Juan, Kayla, Kaylee and Amy from Palestine; and B. C. Honzell and Clen Honzell from Pittsburg; Martha's uncle from Pittsburg; B. J. Littlefield with daughter Peggy Cloe, James and Patsy Barnwell from Lindale; Nell and Ed from The Woodlands; an uncle from Lubbock, Loran and Martha Pitts, Floyd and Martha from Tira; and daughter Regina Payton from Port Aransas. Martha says, “We had a very enjoyable day with plenty of good food, laughter, and lots of stories from the past.”
In upcoming home basketball games at North Hopkins School, junior high teams host Miller Grove, on Monday, Dec. 7, high school girls will play Chisum on Tuesday evening, and the annual Freeman Parish Basketball Tournament is scheduled for Dec. 10-12. Community members are encouraged to attend the school functions and show their support for the students.
Tanya and Matthew Dodd and Tiffany Lawwill were in Kentucky to visit with Tanya’s son, Blain, and his family for the holidays.
Janie and Von Prahl, Mary Helen and Tom Foster, Dana Waggoner and her children Kaden and Kaitlynn celebrated Thanksgiving with Helen Weir on Thursday.
Joyce Dodd reports that her son, Michael, came for a visit during the Thanksgiving holidays. She also said that she had 15 family members over for Thanksgiving at her home on Thursday. Mary Helen, Dana and Michael spent Thursday night with Helen, and then on Friday Joyce, Mary Helen, Dana and Michael did some “Black Friday” shopping.
I met Jim and Sandra Vaughn of Broken Bow last Wednesday, and picked up Chip’s mother, Grace. She and I enjoyed shopping and eating lunch together in Paris. Grace stayed with us until Saturday afternoon. Delayne Vaughn of Waco arrived on Thursday morning. Elizabeth Steinsiek, Chelsie Edwards, and Malcolm, Tiffany, Landon, Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin joined us for Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday evening. After the meal, Elizabeth, Delayne, Chip and I enjoyed playing 42. The Vaughn family gathered for a Thanksgiving meal at the Tira Community Center on Saturday. About 36 were in attendance and enjoyed a meal of fajitas and all the trimmings. Malcolm and Tiffany Joslin and their family celebrated Thanksgiving with Malcolm’s family in Pickton on Saturday at the home of his sister, Roxanne.
We have much to be thankful for, not only during the holidays, but throughout the year!
