We want to express our sympathy to William Dodd and his family in the loss of William’s mother, Dorothy Hurley. Her funeral was held on Saturday at West Oaks Funeral Home. Please remember the family in your prayers.

This Saturday evening (November 2nd) is the North Hopkins Alumni Homecoming. The Class of 1963 will be honored for their 50-year reunion. All former students and staff are encouraged to attend. Registration will begin in the school cafeteria at 5:30 p.m. and the barbecue meal will be served at 6 p.m. Cost for the meal is $10 per person.

Mick and Linda Petty celebrated their 37th anniversary with a short trip to Oklahoma and Arkansas last week. They took a drive along the Talimena National Scenic Byway in Oklahoma, and then spent the night in Hot Springs before returning home. They report that is was probably a week or two early for the fall colors, but they had a nice trip and still saw some beautiful scenery. They are meeting Mike and Tara Owens at Salt Grass on Friday night to celebrate their anniversary and Tara’s birthday.

Brenda Allen of Yantis, Liz Wallace of Commerce and Yvonne Weir met their friend, Regina Taylor of Sulphur Springs, in Frisco and attended a women’s conference at Preston Trail Community Church on Friday night and Saturday morning. Regina’s daughter, Bridgette Hammers, led worship and they report that it was “very good.” I enjoyed lunch with them in Sulphur Springs before they left for the conference.

Yvonne went to a seminar in Austin over the prior weekend. Robert, Yvonne and Wesley Weir met Dustin and Natalie Weir on Sunday in Greenville for dinner and then went to the park. Yvonne says, “It was a beautiful day.”

Wesley Weir had a great time at his 13th birthday celebration on Saturday afternoon. Several friends including Autumn and Tessa Allen; Acie and Kiegan Shehan; Lilly, Jasmine and Kai Taylor; and Eli and Elise Campbell attended the party at Kids Kingdom.

Martha Payton reports, “The Cooper Class of ‘48 held their 65th class reunion at the Tira Community Center on Saturday, Oct. 26. There were 24 in attendance. Those attending were: Thomas and Jean Carrell, Tom’s sister Jean Mixon, Dave and Patsy Oyler, Preston and Verda (Taylor) McCoy, Floyd and Martha Payton, Henrietta (Meadlin) Foster, daughters Sheila Foster, Sheria Foster Oswalt, Inez (Kinslow)Lowery, Clyde and Pat Waters, Martha (Johnson) Moody, Martha (Anglin) Hawkins, daughter Carolyn (Fowler) Martin, friend of Martha Hawkins and Pat Waters, Phyllis Hamilton, Hoyle and Connie Shirley, daughter Laura Stephens and two lovely grandchildren Cameron and Natalie Stephens. We all had a delicious lunch catered and served by Andy Wright Barbeque. We missed those that were unable to attend for health issues and sad reminder of a missing loved one. All returned safely home.”

Chip and I took our grandchildren, Morgan, Kenden, and Jaidyn Joslin, to Holly Lake Resort on Friday night, after attending the Fall Carnival at North Hopkins School. On Saturday, we went to Reklaw for a fly-in and enjoyed seeing all the airplanes. While there we saw Chuck and Karen Olmsted, also from Tira. Later we returned to the resort for their Fall Festival, where the kids played games and we all went on a hay ride and had hot dogs. We spent the day Sunday enjoying the amenities at the resort — miniature golf, shuffle board, basketball, etc. We met Tiffany Joslin in Yantis on Sunday evening and she took the kids home, while Chip and I spent a few vacation days at the resort. Sunday night, Chip and I enjoyed a delicious dinner at Taste of Italy on Lake Hawkins. The fall colors in the area seemed to almost change before our eyes during the few days we were there!
