Mark your calendars for the Tira Volunteer Fire Department Chili Supper at the Tira Community Center on April 6. Watch for more information in future columns.

 

The regular quarterly meeting of the Tira City Council was held at the Community Center on Tuesday night. The group took care of routine business. Mayor Floyd Payton shared about his attendance at the Northeast Texas Resource Conservation and Development area meeting in Paris recently, where the members of the organization voted to give the Tira Volunteer Fire Department a $500 donation. The firefighters are very appreciative of the contribution. 

Sheila Boyd reports, “We had our grandkids this weekend, Josie and Dallas Boyd. Josie learned to ride her bike. We were thankful for the nice weather, but wish the wind would die down soon.”

Sandra Wester's cousin, Bill Taylor, visited her Tuesday morning. Sandra enjoyed lunch at Los Mochis in Sulphur Springs on Tuesday with Wynelle Belz, Mary Sue Clayton, Virginia Miller, Gale Milligan and Jonell Willis. They all enjoyed the time together. 

Ethan Shelton was honored with a second birthday party at the home of his great-grandparents, William and Joyce Dodd. Others present included Maegan, Alyssa and Gavin Shelton; Rob Dodd; Tonja Jones; and Brad, Tanya and Matthew Dodd. The birthday boy and his guests enjoyed cake, ice cream and punch.

North Hopkins school is having Open House on Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Parents, grandparents, other relatives and community members are encouraged come out and visit the classrooms.

Chip Vaughn was in Mesquite for the regional DI (Destination Imagination) competition on Saturday. The Sulphur Springs Middle School team, which he helps coach, placed third in their event.
