Tira volunteer firefighters responded to a grass fire in the Peerless community on Saturday, and fireman John Earl Martin assisted with an accident involving an overturned county dump truck near the roadside park on State Highway 19 north.

I made a mistake in last week’s column. Haley Flanagan was listed as the daughter of James and Rita Flanagan, but her parents are James P. and Alicia Flanagan. James and Rita are her grandparents. I want to apologize for the error.

Kelly and Nancy Potts spent the weekend in McKinney with Nancy's sister and brother-in-law. They shopped around the square and ate at Rick's Chophouse Saturday night.

Nancy says, “I also want to mention that we found a dog hanging around our house on Friday. If someone is missing a dog, please call me at 903-945-2011 to describe it to us. It did not have a collar.”

J.R., Donna, Casey, Tiffany and Joseph Durst had a fun-filled Saturday. They had a visit from J.R.'s sister and brother-in-law, Charlene and Charles Hale from Wylie, and his cousin, Cecilia LaFon from Farmersville. They got to see Joseph for the first time. Donna cooked lasagna for the group. Later in the afternoon, Amy, Kyle and Cooper Kitchens came by for a visit. They had been to Athens to visit Granny (Donna's mother). Cousins Joseph and Cooper got to see each other again, but at this age, they weren't very interested in each other. It was also the first time for the "company" to see Cooper. Donna reports, “Floyd and Martha Payton came over for a visit to see the boys. It was a very enjoyable day.”

Aysha Day, Daylee Fite, Sherry Smiddy and Powell Vickery went to the circus last week. Daylee rode her first pony while they were there. Sherry, Powell and Daylee had dinner with Judy and Randy Roberts and watched the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Danny and Judy Rawson of Denton spent last Wednesday and Thursday nights with Danny’s mother, Mary Rawson.

Bascum and Claudene Chapman visited their son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Yuko Chapman, in Royse City on Saturday. Joe and Yuko have a daughter, Jaqlynn, who will be celebrating her second birthday on Feb. 15. They also visited with Yuko’s sister and her family, Micko, Troy, Yumiko and Mitchiko. Their middle son, John Chapman of Arlington, was there, too, along with his twin daughters, Pearl and Isadora.

Floyd and Martha Payton were in Greenville Tuesday morning for lunch with Martha's brother and his wife, Von and Loretta Honzell. They celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on the 26th of January. Martha says, “Our prayers go out to Sammy and Hope Weir — Sammy was scheduled to have surgery today at Presbyterian Hospital — and also to Bob and Lea King; Bob had surgery on Monday at Baylor. Condition unknown at this time.” Let’s join Martha in lifting these needs up in prayer.

I picked Chip up from D-FW airport on Wednesday and we drove to Austin, where I had training on Thursday. After my training, we drove back to Waco and visited our son, Delayne Vaughn. We spent the day with him on Friday, and Chip repaired his plumbing.
