We want to express our sympathy to the family of Mitch Valentine, who passed away on Thursday. A graveside
service was held at the Tira Cemetery on Monday morning. Please remember this family in your prayers.
The Tira Volunteer fire fighters have responded to several fires lately. Thankfully, Tira has received some welcome rain this week.
Support your local volunteer fire departments at the 6th annual Hot August Nights barbecue cook-off, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Hopkins County Civic Center grounds. Volunteer firefighters will be competing in “fire department muster games.” There will be a bounce house for the kids and music, vendors, and demonstrations. Serving will begin at 5 p.m., with a concert later. John Michael Montgomery will be the featured performer. Wristbands, which cover the food and concert, are $15 for anyone 11 years and older, $10 for kids 6-10, and 5 and under are free. Volunteers are selling tickets for a chance to win a smoker. For more information, please contact Tira Volunteer Fire Chief Malcolm Joslin at 903-348-3629.
Michael Dodd came for a visit over the weekend and attended his 30th class reunion at the Delta Country Club. He said that it was fun, there was a good crowd, and he enjoyed seeing a lot of his old classmates.
Tanya and Matthew Dodd went to Six Flags on Saturday and Barnum & Bailey Circus on Sunday.
North Hopkins school teachers and staff are beginning to gear up for another school year. Teachers return to work on Tuesday, Aug. 21, and the students' first day is Monday, Aug. 27.
Malcolm Joslin was treated to hamburgers, cake, and homemade ice cream for his birthday on Saturday evening. Others celebrating with him at our home were Tiffany, Landon, Morgan, Kenden, Jaidyn and Rylan Joslin, and Laiken Gammill.
