Mark your calendars for the 6th annual Hot August Nights barbecue cook-off, benefiting the volunteer fire departments in Hopkins County, which will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. John Michael Montgomery will be the featured performer.
Danny and Judy Rawson of Denton came on Friday for a visit with Mary Rawson. On Saturday, Judy and Mary met Michelle and Sophie Markides of Houston in Sulphur Springs for lunch at Juan Pablo's, and then they all returned to Mary's house. They celebrated Danny's birthday on Sunday with grilled steaks, coconut cake and homemade ice cream. Mary's guests all left on Monday morning.
Regina Payton from Victoria spent a few days with her parents, Floyd and Martha Payton. They watched the Olympic ceremonies on Friday night, took a scenic trip to Pittsburg on Saturday, and visited with Martha's brother, who resides at Southern Winds Assisted Living. Martha reports that some areas had received rainfall and others were in desperate need of rain. They had lunch in Sulphur Springs at Twisted S. Regina left for her home on Sunday morning.
Malcolm, Tiffany, Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin went to the Great Texas Balloon Race in Longview on Saturday.
Chip and I kept our great-grandson, Rylan, while Landon and Laiken had a weekend getaway. They spent Saturday night at Lake o' the Woods Resort on Lake Palestine. They also enjoyed the water park at The Villages Resort nearby and did some shopping in Tyler. Rhonda Harness picked Rylan up on Sunday and kept him until they returned.
