We want to express our sympathy to the family of Sherry Martin. She passed away last Monday after a battle with cancer. Her funeral was held last Wednesday at West Oaks Funeral Home, with burial in the North Hopkins Cemetery. Sherry was active with the Tira Volunteer Fire Department. I want to apologize to the Martin family for leaving this out of the column last week. Please pray for the family during this time of loss.

Tira Volunteer Firefighters will be selling raffle tickets for a barbecue grill outside Walgreen's on June 16, 23 and 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The grill will be given away in connection with the Hot August Night event. Proceeds will benefit area volunteer fire departments.

Gail Behan passed her NCLEX RN (National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse, an examination for the licensing of nurses in the United States). She took her test on June 4. Gail was excited to find out the good news last Wednesday.

Sandra Wester enjoyed breakfast at the Red Barn Cafe in Sulphur Springs Friday morning, along with Jimmy and Barbara Anderson, Gale Milligan, Virginia Julie Miller, Wynelle Belz, JoNell Willis, and Red and Debra Ferrell. They all got together to celebrate Jimmy's birthday. Catheron Camper stopped by for a short visit and a quick breakfast on her way to do volunteer work delivering meals.

Mick and Linda Petty spent last week on a road trip to Gulf Shores, Ala. The beach was beautiful, the weather nice and the food excellent. They also enjoyed some great scenery on the drive to and from, as they drove down one way and returned via a different route. They left on Monday and returned home on Friday. They had a wonderful trip but report, “It's always nice to come home.”

Rick and Judy Petty, Chris, Robin, Tyler, Trever and Trey Petty, Ronnie, Amy, Mitchell and Macy Green attended the graduation of Reagan Humphrey from Sulphur Springs High School. After graduation they joined Mick and Linda Petty, James and Reagan Humphrey and Mike Owens and Tara Petty for pizza.

Judy Petty, Margaret Eudy, and Dee Ann and Kevin Melton were in Houston for a few days visiting Dorothy Pennix, Bob, Nancy, Robbie and Trent Hale, Wesley, Benta, Madison and Christopher Pennix, Charlotte, Ashley, Amanda and Landon Pogue.

Tiffany Joslin celebrated her birthday over a period of three days. On the evening of her birthday, June 8, she and Malcolm shopped in Paris and had dinner at Applebee's. Tiffany, Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin met their friend Stephanie Weaver in The Colony and went to Hawaiian Falls Water Park on Saturday, and then after they returned, Malcolm joined them that night at our house for hamburgers and homemade ice cream. The next day they all came for lunch and birthday cake. Grace Vaughn joined us for lunch and spent the afternoon at our house. As usual, Grace and I enjoyed playing Scrabble.
