The Tira City Council will meet at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, at the Tira Community Center. The public is always welcome and encouraged to attend.

Mrs. Eva (Lawrence) Kennedy's funeral was held Sunday, with the burial at Tira Cemetery. We extend our sympathy and prayers to the family.

Kadee Melton, daughter of Kevin and Dee Melton, has been appointed to the National Beef Speaker Bureau by the National Cattlewomen's Association. She traveled to Denver, Colo., where she met with representatives from all over the nation, for training as a spokesperson for the beef industry. The National Beef Speaker Bureau is funded by the Beef Checkoff Program. The checkoff is a producer-funded marketing and research program designed to increase demand for beef.  Kadee is a senior ag science and ag communications major at Texas A&M University-College Station.

Sandra Wester, Betty Weir, Virginia (Julie) Price Miller and JoNell Crowson Willis went to Tyler last Thursday to do some shopping at Sam's. They traveled the back roads to Lindale, where they enjoyed a delicious lunch at Posado's, and then went on to Tyler. They took different back roads home and enjoyed the flowers that were blooming and the few trees that were already in bloom. All agreed that it will be a much prettier drive later in the spring.

I recently had a phone call from Mark Hixon, who is planning to move to Tira, along with his wife, Gaye. They have purchased a place on County Road 4575 and hope to move in on May 1. They currently run Hixon Show Horses in Sanger, which is a training, showing and breeding facility. “Due to the downturn in the economy, we are scaling down and will be training only,” Mark says. He also operates a scale service and sales company, selling and servicing industrial scales. Their website for the horse business is www.hixonshowhorses.com.

Danny and Judy Rawson of Denton spent Monday night with Mary Rawson, Danny's mother. On Tuesday, Judy and Mary went to Sulphur Springs and did a little shopping and had lunch at Juan Pablo's.

Malcolm and Tiffany Joslin spent Friday night at The Villages Resort on Lake Palestine. They enjoyed dinner at Cracker Barrel on the way and then shopped in Tyler on Saturday.

Chip Vaughn celebrated his birthday at Los Mochis on Wednesday with Shirley Charles, Frances and Keith Klein, Roy Smith, and Grace and Jan Vaughn. On Saturday evening, he was treated to another birthday supper with home-fried chicken (which, Jan admits, is a rare occurrence) and all the fixings, and a Tunnel of Fudge cake for dessert. Grace Vaughn and Malcolm, Tiffany, Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin joined Chip and Jan for the celebration. Landon stayed home with Laiken, who was not feeling well that night.
