Our sympathy goes out to the family of Hazel (Weir) Johnson, who passed away last Thursday. The ladies of the community (along with other friends and family) served lunch to the family at the Tira Community Center on Saturday prior to the funeral, which was held at the Tira Methodist Church. Please remember this family in your prayers.

Betty Lawson has an exercise bicycle and a treadmill for sale. If you are interested, please call her at 903-945-3067.

Daylee Fite celebrated her 5th birthday Sunday afternoon, Sept. 11, at the home of Sherry Smiddy and Powell Vickery. The theme was a Justin Bieber swim party. Sherry says, "The water was a little cold, but most of the youngest children thought it was just fine." The birthday was celebrated a little early this year because Daylee's Nana Sherry is going to be traveling for her work on the real birthday date. Those attending the celebration in addition to Sherry and Powell were Chanse and Cody Fite; Brandi and Aysha Day; Kathy Day; James Day; Debbie and Bobby Harris; Judy Roberts; Leslie and Addey Owens; Ron, Rheston and Rylan Sills; Brenda Smiddy; Chris, Jenna, Ally, Emma and Braden Vickery; Chris, Leda, Mikyla and Henley Owens; Elizabeth, Karisma and Harley Stegient; Lindsey Perr; and Sandi Wester. Everyone enjoyed the Justin Bieber cake after Daylee had opened her gifts and they sang "Happy Birthday" to her.

Daylee is playing soccer for the first time and is on a team called Soccer Sweeties. She had a busy day on Saturday, starting with the opening ceremony at Coleman Park at 8 a.m., riding in the Fall Festival Parade at 10 a.m. with her team, and then playing in her first soccer game at 3 p.m. The Soccer Sweeties won their game 6-1!

Destri Weir spent the weekend in Austin and enjoyed visiting with her friend, Julie Littlefield. They hadn't seen one another for over 15 years.

Raven Potts flew to Kentucky over the weekend to see her cousin, Ashley Underwood. They are both turning eighteen this year and wanted to celebrate their birthdays together. It was a quic, but memorable trip.

Tommy and Patti Wiebold enjoyed a lovely weekend with Patti's brother, Rick Miller of Rio Rancho, N.M., and his daughter, Sara Miller of San Antonio. Both Rick and Sara arrived on Friday. That night was spent at the Ballpark in Arlington watching the Texas Rangers beat the Oakland A's, and after the game they enjoyed the fireworks show. On Saturday, Tommy cooked an early dinner as Patti, Rick and Sara traveled to Dallas to watch the SMU Mustangs vs UTEP game, with SMU winning their game, too. On Sunday, they had a late breakfast and Rick and Sara traveled back to Dallas to attend another Rangers game. They stayed in Dallas that night, and then returned to their respective homes on Monday. Tommy and Patti spent the rest of the afternoon just enjoying the lovely weather.

Chip and I took Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin to Broken Bow on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 4. We stopped by Jim and Sandra Vaughn's for a visit before going to Beaver's Bend to swim. It was so windy that it made the lake seem more like the ocean!
