The regular quarterly Tira City Council meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Tira Community Center. The public is welcome to attend.

The Tira Volunteer Fire Department competed in the Hot August Night Barbecue Cook-off at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center on Saturday and received a trophy for second place. They also participated in the fire muster games. The annual event benefits the county volunteer fire departments.

Tira firefighters, along with several other departments, responded to a grass fire on FM 71 west, across from North Hopkins School, on Tuesday.

Tommy and Patti Wiebold had their housewarming party on Saturday the 28th. Attendees included Tommy’s brother and niece, Kevin and Alex Wiebold, from DeSoto; Patti’s younger brother his wife and daughter, Barry, Carolyn and Cassie Miller from Mesquite; Patti’s sister, Suzan Miller, and Daylee Fite from Tira; Joe and Cheryl Gonzalez from Mesquite; Chris and Lisa Cunningham, and their sons, Dylan and Codie, from Rowlett; Shane Wilson and his daughters, Heather and Hannah, from Crandall; Phil and Trena Easly and their son, Nathan, from Forney; Randy Skinner from Mesquite; Tim, Candice and Katlyn Conistar from Royse City; Donna Wojcik from Frisco; Terry Boyer from Forney; Judy Riley from Carrollton; Tracy McRae from Whitesboro; Kevin and Cindy Pontias from Lindale; Mark Mosslanka from Coleman, Okla.; Jim and Roxanne Maxey from Mesquite; Amy and Jimmy Blair from San Antonio; Jamie Lanier and her sons, Clayton and Landon, from Mesquite; Greg and Leslie Sayne from Arlington; and Jason, Amanda and Abby Mangrum from Kaufman. The guest were served brisket, chicken, sausage, potato salad and beans cooked by the Wiebolds and Conistars. Along with the main course, were many other fruits, chips and dips. The guest played Baggo, washers and horseshoes, and "a great time was had by all." Patti reports that they received some very nice gifts for their new home and feel very blessed to have had so many friends join them. They had around 10 people spend the night, and after the last of the guests left on Sunday, they enjoyed the remainder of the weekend, resting up after what was a very late night on Saturday. Yvonne and Wesley Weir spent Sunday night with Dacy, Elise and Eli Campbell in Royse City.

Linda Andrasko came to visit her sister, Sandra Wester, on Wednesday. Since the weather was a little cooler, they enjoyed sitting on the front porch each morning watching the hummingbirds.

Suzan Miller returned home from a trip to North Carolina Saturday afternoon. One of the highlights of her trip was a visit to Mount Airy, the home of Mayberry R.F.D. Barry, Carolyn and Cassie Miller of Mesquite visited with Suzan, Sandra and Linda Saturday night. Linda returned to Henderson Sunday afternoon.

Grace Vaughn spent Friday night and Saturday with us. As usual, Grace and I enjoyed a few games of Scrabble.
