I'm sorry to report that I don't have enough news for a column this week. I hope to have more next week.
The Tira City Council held a called meeting on Monday, June 8, at the Tira Community Center. Commissioner Danny Evans met with the group to discuss a grant opportunity for the volunteer fire department. The council voted to enter into the grant application process.
The Tira City Council met at the community center on Tuesday evening. Floyd Payton took the oath of office as the new mayor of Tira and Janie Lewis and Joyce Dodd were sworn in as council members. John Hadley was presented a clock in appreciation of his years of service as the mayor of Tira, and John presented a gavel to Floyd. We want to express our appreciation to John and Dorothy for their dedication to our community and hope that they will be able to continue participating in our activities. The next regular quarterly council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1.
