Next week, when we’re back from spring break, we will have our Kindergarten and Pre-K roundup for anyone who wants to pre-enroll their child(ren) in Miller Grove School for next year. Students must be 3 or 4 years of age by September 1st to attend Pre-K, or 5 years of age by September 1st to attend kindergarten. To enroll your child please bring their birth certificate, Social Security card, a parent/guardian’s driver’s license, and proof of residence in the district (such as a tax statement or utility bill). If you have any questions give us a call and we will be glad to answer them.
Tuesday afternoon was Miller Grove’s first home baseball game of the season. Our boys played against North Hopkins. This year Miller Grove even has a softball team! We haven’t had a softball team in several years now.
Happy Birthday to Peggy (Burns) Rohrer on March 14th; Fran Sparks, Joe Weatherly, and Jenny (Weatherly) Arledge on March 18th.
Speaking of Fran, she has moved out of the hospital and back into a rehab center in Sherman. She has regained movement in most of her body, even though some movement is very minimal. If you would like to send her a card you can address it to: 1000 US Highway 82 East, Sherman, TX 75090. Or, you can send them to their home address: 497 CR 1127, Cumby, TX 75433. I’m sure Fran would be glad to hear from any of her friends.
A very special birthday wish is sent out to Faye (Smith) Gilley this week. She will celebrate her 95th birthday on March 18! Faye moved to an assisted living complex in Dallas a few years ago. She has a nice apartment and several good neighbors there and keeps up with Hopkins County news by subscribing to the News-Telegram. Two of her daughters, Jan and Ginger, live in a close proximity,so she gets to see them often. Her son, Smith Gilley, lives in Greenville, while her other daughter, Kay, lives in San Angelo. Most of you will remember Faye’s sister, Mrs. Edna Johnson, who taught school at Miller Grove for many years. Faye and her husband, Ed, used to live in Miller Grove on FM 275, and they owned Gilley’s store. Ed passed away several years ago. The store has always been a staple in the community. After Ed and Faye sold the store the men would still gather on the steps in the summer time and around the heater in the winter time and share their wisdom with anyone who walked up. Now the store is booming each weekend as Stacey’s Fish Fry. Faye, enjoy your 95th, and I hope you have many more birthdays to come!
Happy Anniversary to my parents, Brett and Lynda Darrow, on March 18th. They have been married 32 years this year!
If you see Demp Sturdevant, be sure to ask him how good his hearing aid is. His dog found it outside after the rain all last week. The amazing this is that it still works!
Miller Grove Cemetery will have a work day again this year on April 3. If you are interested in helping, I know the working committee would be glad to have your assistance. I will have more details next week.
