Folks, I believe spring is on its way! Tuesday there was a fresh uplifting feeling in the air … like spring was nearly here. It made me want to get out in the yard and work, but it was much too wet for that.
I would like to send out a big thank you to H.C. and Mary Lou Akins for letting me copy some of their pictures of Miller Grove School activities. If anyone else has anything they can share with me I would really appreciate it.
Thursday night will be the school’s Open House for anyone who would like to attend. It will start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m., with a short PTO meeting before the open house. The meeting will start at 6 p.m.
Happy belated 91st birthday to Mrs. Doney Kincade. Happy birthday wishes also go out to Della (Wheat) Loane of Sulphur Springs and Donna (Vititow) Asbill of the Daugherty community on March 7; Janelle (Petty) Dean of Cumby on March 8; Terry Tate and Caryn Darrow on March 11; and Johnny Ferguson, Lindsey Watson Potts and Jordan Lennon on March 12. I’ll jump ahead a little and say Happy birthday to my brother, Bradley. He will be 23 on Sunday, March 14. I was three years and 10 months old when he was born, and I remember it like it was yesterday.
Happy eighth anniversary to Sheena (Petty) and Heath McCraw. I remember going to their wedding in Cooper and I can’t believe they have already been married eight years. Sheena is a Miller Grove girl and we won’t hold it against her that she married a Cumby boy. Heath is a real nice guy. In fact, Heath celebrated his 30th birthday on March 9.
J.W. Melton has been visiting Faye Tipps this week. He has been a lot of company to her.
Leroy Akins will soon be moving to an assisted living center.
I am sorry to hear about the death of Dale Petty of Cumby. I have known his family for a long time. His mother was a Plunkett. The old Plunkett school east of Cumby (which is now gone) was named for his family.
Next week will be spring break for the school.
The Ag Mechanics class will leave for Houston next Thursday. They have assembled some top-notch trailers for this year’s competition. Good luck guys!
