I can’t believe that 2009 is nearly gone and we are fixing to enter into 2010. What do you think about when you think of the starting of a new year? I think of two things. One is “what will be instore for the upcoming year?” The other thing I think about is taxes. Will I owe the IRS or will I get a refund? Either way, it will be that time of year before we know it.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Our Christmas wasn’t very big this year. We went to my grandmother’s on Christmas Eve and opened presents at home on Christmas Day. I think this year everyone in the family was able to come to my grandmothers house. If I counted right, we had 35 people in her little house. Some folks in the community had several to gather together for Christmas. Faye Tipps had her regular family along with Mandy Garrett and children, Jim Mack Taylor and children, and R.A. Long. Others took a break from the kitchen and ate at Furr’s. I know because that is what we did for Christmas Day lunch. While we were there we saw Johnny Lennon and his family. I guess they had the same idea of not having to wash dishes on Christmas as we did.
Our family had a little bit of excitement last week when we found out that my brother and sister-in-law will be having a little boy in 5 months. It never really dawned on me how soon the baby will be here … only 5 more months!
Two weeks ago I reported the birth of Brandon and Sara (Garmon) Price’s little boy. Since then I found out from Gail Garmon that their new addition to the family was named Pacen Blane Price. He was born Dec. 15 at 3:05 p.m. He weighed 8 pounds, 1 ounce and was 20 inches long. I know they are all very proud of their little angel.
I talked to Deanna Hasten the other day and she said that they are still working on the large wooden quilt blocks. She said they recently hung two on walls in downtown Sulphur Springs and one will soon appear at College Street Burgers and Fries.
I passed by Bruce and Louise Stripling’s old home on FM 1567 the other day and noticed that it was for sale again.

Remember to eat your black-eyed peas for good luck on New Year’s Day. That is a tradition that my family has done for years. Happy New Year wishes to everyone!
