Miller Grove News for Dec. 23, 2009

I don’t have very much news to share this week. I guess everyone is busy making preparations for Christmas and no one has had time to report any news.

After writing about my debit card mishap in last week’s article I received a phone call from the president of the bank. He told me that part of the reason why things happened the way they did was because of the credit company that the card is issued through (such as Visa or Master Card). The bank has to follow their rules and regulations. It was nice of him to take the time out of his day to give me a call. I did appreciate it. But I’m still a little leery of using my debit card as much as I have in the past.

As for birthdays, I do have a couple of them to mention. Happy birthday to Rex Lennon on Dec. 20th and Monty Tipps on Dec. 22nd. Last week I accidentally left out Mike Hasten’s birthday. He celebrated his 40th on Dec. 17th.

Happy first anniversary to Halston and Pamela Potts on Dec. 20th. And Dec. 25th will be Ed and Geneva (Long) Basye’s 56th wedding anniversary. Congratulations to them!

I was sorry to hear about the death of Peggy Clem’s brother, Rayford Briggs, last week. He was from Point.

My grandmother (Lela) received a phone call from Faye Gilley a few days ago. She said that she would be having a birthday in a couple of months. I marked it down on my calendar so that I don’t forget. I guess just about everyone who has lived in Miller Grove for any length of time knows Faye and knew her husband, Ed. They owned the store that is now Stacey’s Fish Fry.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and you are able to spend time with your families and close friends during this special time of year. Everyone eat an extra bite of turkey and dressing for me and don’t worry about putting on any extra weight. That’s the beauty of the holiday season, being able to eat and say that you will go on a diet when the new year rolls around!

As you travel the highways and byways don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
