Halloween is coming upon us, and that makes me think about two big holidays that are quickly approaching -- Thanksgiving and Christmas! Whether you’re ready or not, they are on their way and will be here before we realize it.
Friday night’s Fall Carnival was a success. It seemed to me like there weren’t as many people at the carnival as there were last year. However, I believe we made about the same amount of money that we did last year. PTO raised quite a bit of money. They worked very hard collecting prizes and organizing all week for the big event. They did a great job!
Happy birthday to my cousin Queta Wilemon of Brashear on Oct. 26. Terry Jill (McGowan) Asbill has a birthday on Oct. 29 and Scott Wren on Oct. 31.
October 28th is Kevin Tipps’ 30th birthday. His family threw him a surprise party on Saturday. Several of Kevin’s family members were on hand to celebrate and eat a pot-luck Italian meal.
Larry Mabe came home from the hospital last week. He is still very weak.
I was sorry to hear about the death of Judy Ashby. She was born Judith Rhea Lennon on Feb. 5, 1943, to Loyd and Margueritte (Branom) Lennon. She passed away at her home on Oct. 22, 2009. She is survived by her husband, children, and brothers (Johnny and Rex Lennon of Miller Grove). She was buried in Duncan Cemetery on Monday.
Tuesday night was Senior Night for the volleyball team. Shaye-Lynn Emerick was the only senior on this year’s team and was honored before the game with a framed photograph that all of the girls on the team signed. The team won the game Tuesday afternoon and they are headed to the playoffs next week! Good luck to them.
