Happy birthday to Tim Clem on Sep. 27, Dylan McGowan on Sep. 28, Mary (Russell) Ridings on Sep. 29. Lastly, a big “Happy birthday!” goes out to my grandmother, Lela Darrow, on Sept. 29. We will probably have a family get-together for her one night very soon. The entire family didn’t do anything for her on her birthday this year because some of the family members were out of town. I took her to the Golden community to get sweet potatoes, but all three warehouses that we went to were closed for the day. On the way back home we stopped at Don’s Restaurant in Emory and met my brother and his family there for supper. My grandmother said that she had plenty of phone calls and cards to help celebrate her 88th birthday. I think she had a good birthday just being able to relax and enjoy it.
Miller Grove school has been playing several volleyball games lately. We also had a junior high baseball game Tuesday afternoon. I’m not sure who won the games. You would think I would know, but my problem is that I am either taking pictures of the kids or I’m talking to people in the stands.
Patsy Hallman e-mailed me the other day and told me that she had received the certificate from the Texas Historical Commission designating Miller Grove Cemetery as a “Historic Texas Cemetery.” She said she would send the framed certificate to us through her brother, Coy, who has been down to Nacogdoches lately.
Injuries and sickness: Faye Tipps has a broken bone in her foot and has been in some pain lately. My dad found out that he has a skin cancer on his hand. The doctor said that it is malignant but he will remove it on Oct. 12. It looks like a pinto bean under the skin on his right hand and has grown very quickly. Melvin Long’s health is not well at this time. Also, Joan Garrett has been having a lot of pain in her wrist. There is still a lot of the flu and several viruses going around.
