How wonderful has this rain been? I have been so proud. It is really rare to see any rainfall in July and August, but we have gotten some pretty good rains this year.
I got word Tuesday that H.C. and Mary Lou Akins have returned from a cruise to Mexico. Fourteen of their family went with them and everyone had a wonderful time. A cruise sounds like so much fun.
I received an e-mail from Gary Darrow's daughter, Shannon, and she said that Gary is doing much better. I'm so proud to hear that he is up and about now. She also said that she and her fiance, Ted Matlock, are heading out to Miramar Beach, Fla., on Monday to "tie the knot." They plan on having the ceremony Aug. 14 on the beautiful white sands of the beach.
My sympathies go out to Joe Woods' family. He passed away Aug. 5. Funeral services were Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Miller Grove United Methodist Church. Joe's wife, Emma Pearl, has lived in Miller Grove just about all of her life (to my knowledge).
Happy 51st anniversary to my aunt and uncle, Mary and Kenneth Smith of Brashear, on Aug. 2. I now that's not quite in Miller Grove but I still had to wish them a happy anniversary.
Happy birthday to Bailey Penny on Aug. 1 and Butch Hall on Aug. 4.
Congratulations to the Evans family. I hear that Stacy and Ryan Evans are expecting a baby in about 7 months! If you don't know Ryan I'm sure you know his parents, Ricky and Lori Evans, or his grandparents, Octave and Linelle Woods. Ryan was a 2003 graduate of Miller Grove school.
Monday and Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Irby had a meeting in the high school gym with students and parents for the upcoming school year. She said there was a good turnout. Only a couple of weeks until students return to school. Faculty will report for duty Aug. 17 and students will start classes on Aug. 24.
