MILLER GROVE NEWS July 22, 2009

I do have a little more news to report this week. I was getting worried there for a while. But, they say no news is good news.

Faye Tipps just came home from a vacation to Arkansas. She went with a few of her friends. I think they went to Eureka Springs and saw the Passion Play, shopped, ate and just had a good time.

Sunday after church my mom and I ate lunch at Y'all Come Back Cafe in Emory. We saw a few MG folks while we were there. Mac Garrett and family, H.C. and Mary Lou Akins, Bro. and Mrs. Strickland, and Margaret and Ernest Cain were all there. We visited with Margaret for a few minutes. She said that her brother, Gary Darrow, has not been doing well. He was in the hospital for a week after going into a diabetic coma. She said he is home now, but still not eating.

Monday Kim Irby and I had a workshop in Mount Pleasant and really wanted to eat lunch at the Texas BBQ Corral in Mount Vernon, but they were closed. I forgot that they are closed on Monday. Let me tell you, they have one of the best barbecue baked potatoes I have ever eaten. They are piled with butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon bits, chives and topped with a mound of chopped beef that cascades down the potato into your plate. Yum, yum. Even though we didn't get to eat there we did find another good place to eat.  It was called Randy's Burgers in Mount Pleasant. The burger was good and the fries were even better. If you're ever in Mount Pleasant at lunchtime and you want a hamburger, be sure to go to Randy's (which is on First Street).

Has anyone noticed the new gates at the north end of the cemetery? They were installed last Thursday. As I understand it, they will match a new fence that will come in the near future. Oma Lea Nelson told me that each section of the fence can be purchased by individuals. Their family name will be made into a panel on the section of fencing that they buy, and the sections will be installed on the north and east sides of the cemetery. There will be two different sizes of sections that may be purchased. One size is 3 foot tall while the taller portion of fencing is 5 foot high. If you have any questions feel free to give Oma Lea a call. I know she will be happy to talk to you about this project.

Happy birthday to Ken Haywood on July 19, Bonnie (Lennon) Knowles on July 20, Sue Ann Sparks on July 22, Zack Lewis and Ruthie Millsap on July 25. The other day I had a chance to send an instant message to Sue Ann on Facebook. I signed up for a Facebook account a few weeks ago and I'm still trying to get the hang of it. But I was really glad to get to talk to her.
