I have several things to write about this week. First, I'll list the birthdays. Happy birthday to Varrell Petty on June 21, Bonny Garrett on June 24, and Scott McGowan on June 26.
Happy 10th anniversary to Paula and Jerald Wren. Jerald is a cousin on my mom's side of the family, but I don't get to see him very much. They live in the Center Point community. June 21 was Patrick and Sherry (Ragan) Dial's seventh anniversary.
Marisha Harris recently graduated with a bachelor's of science degree with a minor in biology from the college of health and human services of Texas A&M University-Commerce. Marisha was valedictorian of Miller Grove's 2004 graduating class. Her parents are Jarmon and Vicki Harris, and her sister is Shyan Harris, all of Point. Congratulations, Marisha!
Bonnie Wheat has been in the area lately. Several months ago she moved to Pennsylvania to live with her son and daughter-in-law. Saturday the Wheat family had a reunion in the Miller Grove school cafeteria. I heard there were around 70 people at the reunion. Then, on Sunday, the MG Methodist Church had a dinner in her honor. If you don't know Bonnie you would probably remember her sister, Mrs. Velma Pippin. Della Loane of Sulphur Springs is also her sister.
Phyllis (Renshaw) Haywood recently had rotator-cuff surgery. She will be out of work until early fall. She cuts hair at Hair Cuts by Us in Sulphur Springs.
Saturday, June 27, there will be a Miller Grove Youth Sports "Bash" at the baseball field at the school. When I was little it would have been called "closing ceremonies" for the baseball season. The event starts at 6 p.m. and lasts until dark. The entire community is invited. There will be hot dogs, fireworks and fun. I know everyone involved is hoping for a big turn out.
Remember, if anyone in the area needs fireworks for the Fourth of July, there is a stand on FM 275 near Miller Grove Baptist Church.
