Saturday's End of School Stew wasn't very successful this year. There were between 35 and 40 people that showed up. The stew was very good, but there just wasn't much community participation.

Happy anniversary to Floyd "Demp" and Marlene Sturdevant, Stephen and Fran Sparks, and Hank and Evelyn Echivero on June 1. It was the Sturdevants' 58th wedding anniversary. It was also Marlene's birthday. The third of June was Lisa (Renshaw) and Jackie Oler's anniversary. Happy golden anniversary to Jerri and Don Petty on June 5.

Happy birthday to Lewis Russell on June 2, Randy Ragan on June 5, and Halston Potts on June 6.

Remember that Junior High Graduation will be this Thursday, June 4, at 7 p.m. High School graduation will be Friday, June 5, at 7 p.m.

The Miller Grove United Methodist Church is going to have a singing on the fifth of June. I don't know who the guest singers will be.

Wednesday afternoon all of the Miller Grove faculty and staff met to say goodbye to three retirees. Mr. Floyd Sturdevant officially retired back in February. Mrs. Barbara Taylor (music teacher) and Mrs. Nancy Edwards (sixth grade teacher), both of Sulphur Springs, are retiring after many years of teaching. We also said goodbye to Mrs. Donna George, who will soon assume the duties of superintendent of North Hopkins ISD.

Faye Tipps has company this week. Our cousin, J.W. Melton, from Tyler is here visiting.

This Saturday will be the Long Cemetery and Brashear Cemetery Memorial Day. I have family buried at each cemetery. The Long Cemetery is in the neighboring Palestine community.
