First off, the baseball boys’ game last Thursday afternoon was canceled because of the rain, but they will have a game next Thursday at 4:30 p.m. vs. Campbell, here at Miller Grove.
Everyone get ready for the FFA Stew and Auction that will be held Friday night in the school’s old gym. The FFA kids have been working hard getting donations and building things in shop class for the auction. The stew will start at 5:30 p.m. with the auction kicking off at 7 p.m. Be sure to bring your checkbook! The local FFA chapter uses the money made from the stew and auction to run their program all year long. This, along with the fruit and meat sales in the fall, are their two main fund-raisers of the year.
Saturday will be a work day at Miller Grove Cemetery. Everyone who wants to be involved needs to be at the cemetery at 8:30 a.m. (weather permitting) to get started. Bring your shovels, wheelbarrows and chainsaws, because there is plenty to do. Monuments need to be leveled, sand and dirt hauled to fill in sunken graves, and fence rows need to be cleaned off.
There will be a special celebration Sunday afternoon for Mrs. Opal Burks. She will celebrate her 99th birthday! Her nieces and nephews are going to give her a party from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. She was living at home, near Lone Oak, until she fell and had to go into a rehabilitation center in Sulphur Springs. One of her nieces is Sharon Tallant.
Only a couple of birthdays this week. Happy birthday to my cousin Kendra Dannheim. Her birthday was Mar. 30. David Tipps had a birthday on March 31. He is now living in Hawkins with his wife, step-daughter, and has a son on the way. Rhonda Garrett’s birthday will be on April 4.
