Several Miller Grove residents were seen in the casino at Grant, Okla., on Friday night. Some of them came back with a little bit of money
stashed away, while the others played back their gambling winnings. One woman even played all night and came home the next day!
Just a reminder that this coming Saturday night will be the water board’s barbecue supper in the old school gym.
I only know of one birthday this week. Happy birthday to Duane Garrett on Feb. 17. Duane and his wife, Joan, live on FM 275 as you head towards County Line. I think Duane still works with his coffee business (Jody’s Coffee Service) on a regular basis. Joan retired from Miller Grove Farm Supply a few years ago.
Happy anniversary to Bertha and William Sparks on Feb. 21. I believe I’m correct when I say that this is their golden anniversary. Congratulations to you both.
Patsy Hallman, Elaine Garmon and I have heard word this week from the Texas Historical Commission. They have told us that we have all of the requirements met in order for Miller Grove Cemetery’s historical application to be processed, except for a signature from the Hopkins County Historical Commission’s Marker Chair, which has been contacted for the signature. I believe the letter said that the application would come up for review in 60 days.
Miller Grove’s varsity girls basketball team played a game Monday night at Cooper, but suffered defeat.
Tuesday night was the game that determined what ranking the Miller Grove Fighting Hornets would have in our district. After four quarters of fast, hard and quick ball handling, our Hornets beat the Sulphur Bluff Bears. Like the Miller Grove homecoming game, tensions were high, and fans stayed in suspense until the very last shot. Sulphur Bluff put up a great fight, but we took the title of “District Champs.” Crucial shots were made throughout the game by Aaron Baylus, Seth Roberts, Andrew Steele and Cayle Watson, but we couldn’t have won the game without successful defensive plays made by Jordan Lennon, Joey Hegseth, Mason Kerby, Tim Heijligers and several others. Good job boys, good job!
