Heat and grasshoppers are two things we can count on during the long summers in Texas. This year is no exception. I have had my fill of grasshoppers and I know the people who have gardens are even more tired of them than I am. I was driving down FM 275, toward Cumby, the other day and noticed that there were some fencerows that had been completely ambushed by the little creatures. They were all along the barbed wire as well as lined up one side and down the other of the fence posts. My little nephew thinks they are the greatest things in the world. Of course, he’s only three so he doesn’t know how grasshoppers can wreak havoc across the country steadily eating everything in site.

Happy Birthday this week to Kayson Barron, Julie Smith and Josh Kerby on July 28; Rodney Lennon, Virgie Johnson and Kent Renshaw on July 30; Darlene Flecker and Bailey Penny on Aug. 1; and Alexsa Burkett on Aug. 2.

I would like to send out a very special belated birthday wish to Geneva (Garmon) Stripling who celebrated her 97th birthday last week!

Happy 30th anniversary to Steve and Cathy (Scott) Rhodes on July 29. Happy anniversary wishes to my uncle and aunt, Kenneth and Mary Smith, for their 55th year of marriage on Aug. 2! I would also like to extend a Happy Anniversary wish to my good friends, Jerry and Betty McGowan, who will also be celebrating 55 years of marriage on Aug. 1!

One afternoon last week I stopped by and visited with Octave and Linell Woods after I got off of work. It was nice to get to hear a few of Octave’s stories and visit with Linell about some folks with connections to the Pippin and Hill Cemetery.

Faye Tipps had company this weekend. Our cousin, J.W. Melton, came to visit for the day on Saturday.

I saw Jaime (Back) Fox and her family Sunday at Tierra Del Sol in Sulphur Springs after church. The restaurant was packed and they were waiting for a seat to become available. It was good to get to see them.
