The scattered rains last week were so nice. I hope we continue to get them throughout the rest of the summer.
Last week, during the regularly scheduled July school board meeting, all of the new hires were able to meet the board members. Kim Irby introduced Laurie Meadows and Angie McCrary, who would be taking over the high school office duties; and Tina Davenport, who would fill Mrs. Watson’s vacancy as library aide; then, Brian Jackson and Stephanie Lynch, who would be responsible for the agriculture department. Both Jackson and Lynch said they had several contacts on where to buy good show-quality animals for the students. Then, Lance Durham was recognized as a new secondary math teacher. Finally, the new maintenance man was introduced. His name escapes me at the moment, but he seems very nice and friendly. Our new pre-kindergarten teacher, Lindsay Smith, met the board last month when she was hired, and most everyone knows Ana Billingsley who will return this year as a physical education teacher and coach. So, the many vacancies have been filled since the ending of the school year.
Faye Tipps has had company lately. Johnnie Long has been to visit her and keep her company for a few days.
Happy birthday this week to Sue Ann Sparks on July 22, Lindsey Bunch on July 24 and Jim Lynn on July 27.
Happy 67th anniversary to Lewis Dean and Bobbie Ruth (Garrett) Woodard on July 27!
As for upcoming events, I can’t think of any at the moment. I know news will pick up as it gets closer to the starting of school and the pre-season volleyball games begin.
Also, if you didn’t catch the big article about the school’s historical marker in the weekend edition of the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram, I suggest you buy a copy and read about it. I thought they did a great job and even included a picture of the old frame school house.
